After the Body Image and Cosplay panel, I finally made my way to the dealers’ room… the infamous dealers’ room. The one thing at each con you want to see. Sure, you spend an obscene amount of money… but it’s so worth it. You can find some neat merch catering to your particular fandom. So, of course I made my rounds. I always do a first walk around. See what’s there. Then I figure out what it is I want and go from there. It seems to be a pretty good system. And while the dealers’ room at Fanime is much smaller than the one at Comic Con… I

find it much easier to navigate. I’m not being attacked by a cacophony of sights and sounds.

I can make it through the room easily. Certainly faster than a room so massive one has no idea where to start.

Saturday night we managed to have dinner with

a friend. It may have been later in the evening… but considering that I was planning on keeping going until about 2 or so, I figure 8 PM is about right. It’s the first time I’ve been to Original Joe’s in San José. It’s pretty close to Fanime and the hotel we were staying in. It was great to catch-up with a friend. It’s something that you don’t necessarily get to do all that often.

After dinner, it was time to wait for yaoi. As I’ve stated before, that’s just how I roll. While I can always watch hentai (and god knows

Miridia from Brave

there’s a lot of it out there), I think there’s something about a good story attached to porn. So, I’m all down for that. More story and graphic sex, I can go for that. The line for yaoi is typically shorter than it is for hentai… and that was again the case this year. However, I have noticed that the room is more and more full from the first time I went into the yaoi room. There was some good stuff on Saturday night… more importantly, not anything that I’ve seen.

As we were leaving for the night, we were looking at Sunday night’s schedule I realized

that I had either seen or owned 90% of what was being shown on Sunday night. You know that you watch a good amount of yaoi when you go to a yaoi night and you already own a good portion. Though, I can’t give enough praise to “My Sexual Harassment”, “Ai no Kusabi” and “Okane no Gai”.

Once we left, it was time to tuck in for the night after watching some “Cowboy Bebop”.

Sunday was also another early start day. There was a Shin Megami Tensei panel. So after

Zero Suit Samus

waking up early and heading back to the convention, we found out that the Shin Megami Tensei panel was canceled (*insert sad face here*). Instead of having nothing better to do, we decided to go out and get a proper breakfast instead. Afterwards, we wandered around the convention some more, talked to people and got some more awesome pictures.

Our first panel on Sunday wound up being Female Characters in Anime and Manga. I was hoping it would have been a discussion about female characters in anime and manga. They were going to discus the roles of women in anime and how they’re portrayed. Unfortunately, that’s not what the panel was about. It was useful, but it was a panel about character creation. I do like that there was a panel on how to write women.

I will say that I was still hoping that there would be greater discussion about women in anime, but explaining how to create decent female characters is also fairly awesome.

After that panel was a wee bit of a break before our next panel, Diversity in Cosplay. I took that as a chance to get a bit of a snack. Time to get some food and stop myself from sugar crashing. So after a brief snack, it was time to hit the line for Diversity in Cosplay.
